NEW RECORDING FROM TOP CHARTING BAND SIGNALS NEW MUSICAL ERA
For Immediate Release (Nashville, TN) — The Frye Family Band has undergone a lot of transitions leading up to their 8th recording. With the new project, This Is Your Victory, the current lineup includes the band’s founder and patriarch Tom Frye, his son Jonathon, and longtime drummer Eric Reynolds with the addition of Jonathon’s wife Mane on vocals. Daughters Kaylyn and Maggie are now married and parents of small children, so they have stepped off the stage for the time being, but Tom says the band has never wavered on one component—family.
“As with every season of the Frye Family Band, this change happened very organically,” says Tom. “In the beginning, the band just kind of grew out of Lisa’s and my parenting philosophy of ‘doing life together.’ So, as I began to get invitations to sing, the kids were just there and a part of it. The girls are now wives and mommies and are involved in their own churches, it’s simply a new season for all of us.”
Tom says Jonathon’s wife was acclimated to the sound long before she and Jonathon were married.
“There was about a year when the band was Jonathon, Eric and me,” says Tom. “But that changed when Jonathon started dating Mane while they were both students at Trevecca Nazarene University. We had a couple local shows in Nashville, and I asked Mane if she would want to sing background vocals with us. That’s how it started. Soon after Mane started singing the songs Maggie fronted. I’ll never forget the night I felt like she really stepped into her new role as part of the band. We were warming up for a concert in Montana and I realized that she was trying hard to sing the songs like Maggie. After soundcheck, I pulled her aside and told her this was a new season and I just wanted her to be her. She stepped out on the stage that night and owned it.”
This Is Your Victory also marks the first time Jonathon has stepped into the role of producer. For the eight new songs, Tom collaborated with several writers such as Michael Farren (Michael W. Smith, Reba McEntire), James Tealy (Lauren Daigle, Kari Jobe, Josh Wilson), Daniel Doss (Worship Together, Word Worship), Chris Clayton (Chris Tomlin, Keith & Kristyn Getty, Big Daddy Weave), Leah Paschall, and Matt Crosson. He's Still There is the first single released to radio and streaming ahead of the full album release on August 3. Another song on the new project, Big Ole Stone (Victory) has also been recorded by the award-winning Southern Gospel group, Triumphant Quartet.
“I was mulling over the idea of that song and shared it with Daniel Doss,” says Tom. “Daniel is an extremely talented writer, artist, and worship leader. I was so pleased with how it came together and was looking forward to hearing Mane tear into this song. She totally owns it, and I can’t wait for everyone to hear it, but I am also thrilled that the Triumphant Quartet have just released their own version of the song. As a writer, it is always satisfying to be able to share a song that first originated in your heart and mind, but to have someone else want to sing it – especially a group as talented as the Triumphant Quartet— it is truly an honor.”
Tom says the first single, He’s Still There, was a song he never wanted to write.
“This song was written for someone close to the band who, in a difficult season, had – thankfully – an unsuccessful attempt to take their life,” says Tom. “There are so many times in life when our feelings can overtake us and, in those moments, they can seem more real than the truth we otherwise know—that God will never leave us or forsake us, that God is fighting for us, that God’s grace is bigger than any circumstance in which we find ourselves. This song was inspired by one special person, but it was written as an encouragement to everyone to hold tightly to Jesus.”
In addition to concerts, the Frye Family Band created Deliberate Family events that go well beyond just music. With workshops on relationship-building, parenting on purpose, and other topics, Tom says the events are simply an extension of the philosophy he and his wife have had since they married.
“Lisa and I have seen first-hand the blessings of focusing less on raising children and more on raising disciples,” says Tom. “These events are an effort to pay that forward. At the core of everything we do is the desire to see others grow as both disciples and worshipers of Jesus.”
