Israel humanitarian says Afghanistan crisis may affect the safety of the Holy Land
For Immediate Release (Arlington, TX) — Dr. Jeffrey Johnson has spent over 20 years serving children and Holocaust survivors in Israel. His organization, Israel Today Ministries, has provided nearly 200,000 meals to Jews and Arabs alike. Dr. Johnson expressed his concern this week about what the Afghanistan situation means to the people of Israel.
“One must consider the ideology of anti-Semitism,” says Dr. Johnson. “Radical Islam loathes the Jew. Afghanistan is part of the fabric of tribal Islamic hatred against the nation Israel. As the Taliban takes control of the country, it could possibly become a launching area for nefarious people desirous to harm Israel.”
Dr. Johnson says recent comments in the New York Times from Russia’s President Putin may be a fulfillment of biblical prophecy.
“Putin said he’ll work to normalize Afghanistan,” says Dr. Johnson. “Russia and China are working to spearhead an emergence of an Asian power bloc. Revelation 16 and Isaiah 23 refers to an alliance in the latter times of the ‘kings of the east’ that become a threat to Israel. The ‘kings of the east’ categorically are the nations east of the Euphrates River. Additionally, Ezekiel 38 mentions a coalition led by a power from the north along with Persia that will attack Israel, commonly called the Battle of Gog and Magog. In the narrative of Gog and Magog, we find Israel believing they are safe having ‘unwalled villages’ (Ezekiel 38: 8, 11, 14). Walls are for protection and safety. You remove the walls and you become vulnerable. Perhaps, the current Abraham Accords and future treaties will bring about this false sense of peace for Israel.”
Dr. Johnson says that Afghanistan may be part of the “kings of the east” that revolts against Israel.
“We need to pray for the peace of Jerusalem (Psalm 122:6),” says Dr. Johnson. “Pray for the soldiers and their families as they return home. And pray for those American citizens who remain in Afghanistan, those who wish to come home, and cannot because of the political quagmire.”
In his latest book, “Behold His Yeshua: Psalm 91,” Dr. Johnson says that despite a continuing pandemic and now international unrest, there is a promise of protection for God’s people.
“There may be no better scripture in the Bible for the world right now than Psalm 91,” says Dr. Johnson. “Psalm 91 shows us God’s strategy of hope when testing, trial, sickness, and evil attacks come calling. The Talmud (the central text of Rabbinic Judaism) refers to Psalm 91 as ‘The Song of Plagues. ’ The psalm reminds us that believers are in the ‘shade’ of the Almighty. It reminds us that God will never abandon His children. There is no need to fear; He will help us. Life without hardships and testing is impossible, whether in the flesh or the spirit. But God has given each of us free will. We choose. When we learn to discipline ourselves in both body and spirit, we can acquire virtue, strength, and wisdom.”
