_
Due to the record-breaking response to her January “Seek and Find” Daniel Fast, popular author and nutrition expert Kristen Feola has scheduled another online participatory fast entitled “Choose to Live” to begin March 18 leading up to Easter Sunday. The January fast was the first time Feola had invited her 30,000 monthly website visitors to join her in a fast based on her book, The Ultimate Guide to the Daniel Fast. Feola had over 2,145 people sign up to follow the 21-day fast with her. On the second day of the fast, her website logged 16,759 first-time visits and 65,864 page loads, a record high for her website. Feola’s fast also caught the attention of Woman’s World magazine which will be featuring Feola in their March 15 issue. Woman’s World magazine has a readership of 8.2 million.
During January, The Ultimate Guide to the Daniel Fast also scored high sales numbers, becoming a top 5 best-seller at Family Christian Stores as well as becoming the #1 best-seller on Amazon’s Ritual Religious Practices list and #16 in their Cooking, Food and Wine category. Additionally, the ebook verision sold over 900 copies in just two weeks during Zondervan’s “Load your EReader” promotion.
“When I invited people via my website to begin 2012 with a Daniel Fast, I was completely blown away when more than 2,000 decided to join me,” says Feola. “Providing participants with a theme proved to be extremely helpful. It gave people direction for the fast and served as a constant reminder of why they were seeking God. Plus, my daily newsletter turned out to be a great communication tool. I was able to share devotions, recipes, cooking videos, and prize giveaways each day of the fast. Many people wrote and gave me positive feedback on how helpful the emails were on their journey, stating how thankful they were for the encouragement.”
The Daniel Fast, which is typically a 21-day fast, is based upon accounts of Daniel’s fasting experiences as recorded in the Bible. The book of Daniel records that Daniel, after receiving a disturbing vision from God, entered into a state of mourning, or fasting. The Bible says that he ate no choice food and had no meat or wine for three weeks (chapter 10:2-3). Foods that are allowed on the Daniel Fast are fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans, legumes, nuts, seeds, and oils. Foods to be avoided include dairy, meat, sugar, all forms of sweeteners, yeast, refined and processed foods, deep-fried foods, and solid fats. Since the Daniel Fast includes solid food, it’s much less intimidating than a liquid-only fast, resulting in greater success for people.
Feola looks forward to the “Choose to Live” fast in March leading up to Easter. “I am basing this next fast on Deuteronomy 30:19-20," says Feola. "I hope to encourage those who have accepted the Lord to continue to choose life each day by obeying God's commands and growing deeper in relationship with him, and to challenge people to pray for those in their lives who do not know the Savior, that they would choose life in Him.”
Feola has worked as a personal trainer, nutritional consultant, First Place 4 Health leader, Moms in Touch leader, and fitness instructor. Kristen lives in Springfield with her husband, Justin, and her two daughters. Her website address is www.UltimateDanielFast.com.
